The Cup is managed and run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is participated by countries through a so-called “knock-out” format.

The Davis Cup according to its history was started in 1900 as a form of challenge between two big worlds: Great Britain and United States. In 2005, more than a hundred of countries registered for the event, but the United States remains as the most successful of the nations included. Recent records have revealed that the United States has already won 31 championships, with 29 runner-ups. Australia comes second with them winning 28 games.
