Definitely the fastest growing sport, and the newest entry for the major leagues, lacrosse is not only attracting players to its fast paced, high adrenaline game. Aside from the new players signing up on training camps and junior varsity, sports equipment manufacturers are seeing the potential the game can bring, and started to fully support the game with their own line of lacrosse equipment.
Here are some of the biggest lacrosse equipment manufacturers in the United States.
Warrior Lacrosse
One of the biggest sports equipment, utility and apparel manufacturers for lacrosse; Warrior Lacrosse was started by Dave Morrow, a former all American lacrosse player, during the onset of the lacrosse fever in Canada by the early 1990s. After a decade of very successful operations, New Balance acquired Warrior Lacrosse by February 1, 2004, further cementing its financial stability and as a major lacrosse equipment manufacturer. As of now, Warrior Lacrosse is competing big to two other major lacrosse equipment manufacturers, Brine and STX.
The lacrosse equipment manufacturer Warrior Lacrosse is also credited for aggressively introducing the game to the rest of United States. It was instrumental for the foundation of the big league lacrosse, the Major League Lacrosse (MLL), where Dave Morrow, along with Jake Steinfeld from the “Body By Jake” and Tim Robertson were the founding fathers. The lacrosse equipment manufacturer Warrior Lacrosse also sponsors the Canadian Men’s National Team as well as several collegiate level lacrosse teams for the NCAA. Warrior Lacrosse individually sponsors professional lacrosse players such as Greg Cattrano and Mark Millon.
During the 2006 Warrior World Lacrosse Championship, Warrior Lacrosse was the title sponsor, an event which was held in London, Ontario, and on Halifax, Nova Scotia for the 2007 Warrior World Indoor Lacrosse Championship where Warrior Lacrosse is also the title sponsor. Warrior Lacrosse has also an existing arrangement with ESPN and its annual coverage of the men’s lacrosse championship in the NCAA.
Following the success of the acquired brand name, New Balance’s recent acquisition Innovative Hockey was renamed to the Warrior Brand, thus was called Warrior Hockey. Both brands, however, are still separate divisions under the New Balance brand name.
STX
Like Warrior Lacrosse, STX had evolved big time from a purely lacrosse equipment manufacturer. The name STX was a contraction of the word “stick” a direct referral to the crosse that is used in the game. Like the namesake implied STX was once a crosse supplier, and over time expanded to other modern lacrosse equipment and apparel. STX is a Wm. T. Burnett & Co subsidiary, which makes aside from lacrosse equipment, field hockey sports equipment and golf putters, but still lacrosse is its main business franchise. The STX Company started around 1970 when the founder Richard B.C. Tucker formulated a lacrosse stick design that would later on revolutionize the way the game is played. This stick would then journey to the 1971 NCAA finals where it played pivotal goal scoring moments. Now, STX is the proud and exclusive supplier of the US National Men’s Lacrosse Team.
Brine, Corp
From Brine, Inc. to Brine, Corp. after the company’s acquisition by sports manufacturer giant New Balance on August 4, 2006, Brine has several accolades already under its namesake. Most notable was their Brine lacrosse ball. In the lacrosse national and major leagues, its only Brine and Warrior Lacrosse respectively that supply balls to these big leagues.
Of the three major lacrosse equipment manufacturers, Brine is the oldest and unlike the other three, catered originally to a large palette of sports interest. It’s primarily a sports uniform supplier that caters to a small circle of private schools and regional training camps, until after 1950s when Brine concentrated on lacrosse equipment.
