Basics On How To Play Tennis

While tennis is not the easiest sport to learn, knowing how to play tennis like a pro can be done in a much easier and faster way than how most people learn it. The initial step is to know the basic things that you need to do when you’re on the court –serving, the court, changing ends, scoring, and a few tips.

Serving

When playing tennis, remember that you must always serve the ball from the baseline. Also keep in mind that in tennis, a player always serves the ball every other game of the match. Missing two serves successively, allows the opponent to get the point.

The Court –Which Part To Use?

During a doubles game, the “alleys” are only “in play” right after a first serve has been done. In serving a ball, a player must be able to land the ball in the “first box” diagonal to the player on the opponent’s side of the court. This must also be done before the whole span of the court is “in play”.

Changing Ends

An exchange in the ends of the court is done between players, after the “first game of the first set”. Then after, the swap is done every after two games. This is done to balance out whatever disadvantage there is of the wind or sun conditions.

Scoring

Points in tennis are not done as 0, 1, 2…but instead “love” for 0, 15, 30, 40, and Game. The points are read according to who serves the game. A “Game” means a win in tennis, and a player has to be ahead in scoring four points to win. Unless the preceding score was 40-40 or deuce, then a player will need to win two successive points for a “game”.

Generally, player needs to be ahead to win six games to win a tennis “set”. Winning a “tennis match” means that player must be the first win three sets.
