Girls Volleyball

These days, girls volleyball has become such a huge hit all over the world. In fact, girls volleyball has become quite as strong a sport compared to its male counterpart. But why is this so? What has made girls volleyball quite strong that it has become more than just a trend in schools nationwide?

Let is delve a bit into the history of volleyball to answer this question. Volleyball originated from the state of Massachusetts. It was in the year 1895 when businessmen started playing this modified form of basketball during lunch break. This was because the athletic director of Holyoke YMCA at that time wanted the businessmen to play a game that would not make them too sweaty upon reporting back for work. And these were male businessmen at the time.

Over time, volleyball has caught the frenzy of a lot of people of all ages, both male and female. At present, volleyball is even considered the third most popular sport! And this is for the womens volleyball division, mind you, not that of the men. In fact, just for the high school division, there are over 380,000 female volleyball players already! This figure is just in high school alone! No wonder there are so many famous female volleyball players to date already. These famous players include Leila Barros, Ana Paula, and Gabby Reece. Yes, there are the female volleyball stars that have been very, very huge in the circuit.

Now, let’s go back to volleyball in its homeland Massachusetts. With more than 250 high schools there, over 6,500 students are into volleyball as well. Thus, volleyball is indeed one of the most favorite sports being played there as well. And these girls are not giving in to the pressures of the game at all. They fight tooth and nail, and some even lose their fingernail tips just because she had to dig real deep to save a spiked ball onto her court. Even male players stop to watch the girls volleyball practice, and they cannot help but render much praise to the girls as well. The male players now marvel at the passion and dexterity their female counterparts exhibit. Some male players even go as far as saying that the girls can indeed beat them whenever and wherever they wanted.

But this sheer passion for girls volleyball would not be complete without the support of their parents and that of the Massachusetts fans as well. People from all over Massachusetts watch these volleyball games with such fervor, that the female players themselves have become quite famous all throughout the state. Some players have even marched for the Fourth of July parade! And this strong support system has led to a number of high schools taking state championship titles. The year 1993, in particular, saw Barnstable take their own state championship title as well, under the guidance and leadership of Coach Turco.

Coach Turco, in particular, has been quite influential when it comes to the progress of girls volleyball in Barnstable. He has this winning attitude that he just cannot help but rub off on the team he handles. He is all about positivism, in the sense that positive people attract positive outcomes, while negative people attract the opposite. Plus, there is also that belief in the importance of trusting your teammates. In the fast-paced game of volleyball, any player has only a split-second to decide her next move in saving the ball. And as teammates, you would have to have that sense of trust, cooperation, and teamwork to get to that ball. And this is clearly demonstrated by the team of Barnstable. It also helps that the Barnstable players know each other since they were still young, being a small school and all.
